The big news since our last update is the approval of the new SN PLUS supplemental category by the American Petroleum Institute Lubricants Group (API LG). The definition, symbols, specification and user language for the API supplement, which allows marketers to add the "PLUS" to API SN and API SN RC formulations, were at the request of manufacturers to increase protection for small-displacement, direct-injected and turbocharged engines. This includes the new low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) test (Sequence IX) at a limit of no more than five for the average number of events.
