The Explosion in COVID-19 Lawsuits

This month's column is another follow-on to my presentation during ILMA's first LubeTrends virtual Town Hall on HR considerations surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. I would like to focus this month on the explosion of COVID-19 workplace lawsuits filed against employers. A handful of law firms are tracking this litigation, and I have reviewed their data. As I write this column, over 2,000 COVID-19-re-lated cases have been filed across the country, with a little over 300 lawsuits involving workplace claims. Approximately 45% of them commenced in June. There are limitations in tracking lawsuits, so view the tracking information as comprehensive.
