Quality Education with Instructional Design via Massive Open Online Courses

UNESCO’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognized that education is crucial in achieving to its’ 17 goals. Aspirations for education are essentially covered in Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) where it aspires to ensure inclusive and equitable quality educationand promote life-long learning. In moving towards quality education (in line with SDG 4), Malaysia too has embarked on cultivating quality education by its’ introduction of the Malaysia Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) initiative. Through the initiative, Malaysia has currently 59 MOOCswith over 200,000 students developed by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia in collaboration with 20 public universities. This includes the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where it currently has 49 MOOCs, with an enrolment of over 72,000 students. The keynote paper discusses the developmentof the UKM MOOC initiative and its’ transformation on the teaching and learning practices in the university as well as its’ impact on the local and international educational landscapes.
