A glass fibre-reinforced thermoplastic that demonstrates low warpage and high flame-retardance has been developed for use in electric-vehicle battery parts by Lanxess of Cologne and HELLA KGaA Hueck & Co of Lippstadt, both in Germany. Called Pocan AF4130, the compound has been designed as a housing material for a battery-management unit (BMU) and two cell-monitoring units (CMUs). The blend of polybutylene tereph-thalate (PBT) and acrylic ester-styrene-acryloni-trile (ASA) contains 30%-by-weight glass fibres and a halogen-based flame-retardance package.
