Low temperature electrical splice resistancemeasurements were performed on samples of high purityaluminum (RRR > 5500). The samples were spliced togetherusing two different joint configurations and adhering techniques: 1)soldered lap joints of Cu coated aluminum and 2) TIG welded buttjoints. Splice resistance measurements of both the TIG welded buttjoints and the Cu coated lap joints were made at 300, 77, and 4.2K using a dc transport current technique in the absence of anapplied magnetic field. Results showed that the soldered sampleshad splice resistivities ranging from 10 -6 to 10-7Ω -cm2 at 4.2 K,and were of the order of 10-5 Ω-cm2 at room temperature. Resultson all of the TIG welded samples showed splice resistivities < 10-8 Ω-cm2 at 4.2 K. An analysis was performed to determine thecurrent flow within a lap joint of non-superconducting materialswith rectangular cross sections. A generalized expressiondescribing the current distribution within the lap joint was derived.
