Obituary: Dr.Robert F.Inger, 1920-2019

At FMNH he met several famous herpetol-ogists, Karl P.Schmidt, Dwight D.Davis, and Clifford H.Pope.In 1942, Inger received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Chicago.It was Karl P.Schmidt who suggested Inger to use the vast collection at FMNH to monograph the systematics and zoogeography of the Philippine Amphibia as his dissertation and he published it as his first famous monograph(Inger,1954a).During this period, Inger got a job as Assistant Curator of Fishes in 1949, and in 1954, he became Curator of Amphibians and Reptiles succeeding Clifford Pope.It should be noted that Inger,in this early stage of his career, published papers important for Japanese herpetologists,the first comprehensive summary of amphibians of the Ryukyu Islands(Inger, 1947,1950).
