The Scribe's guide to spotting the next political wave and surfing to riches. The really big news story that should be filling the UK media as the Scribe writes (the second week of April) should be the commencement of London's Ultra Low Emission Zone. In basic terms, if you take your car into London's central zone and your exhaust emissions are greater than 75 gram/km, you get taxed by the day. We have all the technology to do this: mainly number plate recognition, which recognises the age, model type and emission level of every car that enters the central zone. London will not be the last city to do this. Taxing goods and services can change behaviour and will stimulate the purchases of newer, cleaner (and preferably electric) vehicles. Good news for the battery sector and for health: there's been a slow but steady drip feed of information about how bad air pollution is for health. We won't bore you with the statistics, but those who are affected most- kids- have little say in the issues that govern things. While it hits the pocket, the general sentiment is that it's a "good thing".
