Distributed monitoring system for precision management of household biogas appliances

In order to improve the safety and convenience of the household biogas appliances and to provide precise information for appropriate management of the large and medium-sized biogas projects, a distributed monitoring system was designed and developed. The system is used for the real-time monitoring of the state of household biogas appliances, the biogas usage amount, and the conveying pipe pressure in the biogas project. To realize the automatic start/stop and the biogas flow regulation, the mechanical structure of household biogas appliances was developed. The distributed monitoring system consists of a local monitoring system of the household biogas appliances based on ZigBee wireless technology and a remote monitoring system based on LoRa wireless technology. The local monitoring terminal provides a monitoring and operation platform for users by using STM32 with mu C/OS-III and emWin. This terminal collects data from ZigBee endpoints as ZigBee coordinator, and sends the collected data to the LoRa gateway as an endpoint of the LoRa network. The remote monitoring terminal based on WinCC manages the data from the LoRa gateway. In addition, a real-time warning system was embedded in the LoRa gateway to send alarm messages to the users via the GSM module. The hardware operation, software configuration functionality, data accessibility, and network communication of this system were tested. Experiment results reveal that the monitoring system could provide precise information for the effective management of the large and medium-sized biogas projects.
