EIA: Natural gas to play key role in long-term energy mix

This article focuses on the findings published in the U.S. Energy Information Administration's (EIA) report - Annual Energy Outlook 2020 with projections to 2050. Predictions are also put forth as regards the direction of the compression industry in light of this report. Attention is primarily on the hydrocarbon industry because the report indicates that this industry will exhibit the most commercial activity. It is important to understand the basis of the EIA's report to fully comprehend its conclusions. The study is founded on the following items: Although the report provides various scenarios for the future of the energy industry, like high oil prices and low prices, this article focuses on the "reference" case. Improvements in energy production and consumption technologies will continue. Current laws and regulations affecting the energy industry are taken into account, including those with relevant end dates. Potential laws, regulations and standards are not taken into account. Average rate of growth in GDP, 2020 real dollars, is 1.9%. The price of Brent crude oil is US$105/bbl in 2050.
