摘要

The aim of the Pillnitz apple breeding programme was to develop both good fruit quality and high yield. All clones with high susceptibility to scab and mildew were eliminated in field evaluations. This programme developed the "Pi-series" ("Pi"=Pillnitz) of apple cultivars: Piros, Pinova, Pilot, Pirol, Pia, Pingo and others. Later the cultivar Steinantonovka was used as a polygenic scab resistant source, and Malus floribunda and other wild species with different resistance sources were also involved. The results are the cultivars of the "Re-series" ("Re"=Resistance). Fungicides can be reduced by at least 80% upon the use of these cultivars, which have good fruit quality, early and high cropping, and demonstrate resistance to scab and to some extentto other fungal and bacterial diseases.
