Endoscopic Resection Techniques for Small Colorectal Polyps

During a colorectal cancer screening colonoscopy, most of the polyps diagnosed were small polyps (between 6 and 9 mm in size) and diminutive polyps (less than 5 mm). Nowadays, endoscopic polyp resection is still recommended, even if in the near future this recommendation will probably change; thanks to many innovative endoscopic techniques that allows to predict in vivo polyp's histology. Different techniques are suitable for small polyp resection: cold or hot snare polypectomy, cold or hot forceps polypectomy. The best technique for small polyp resection seems to be the cold snare polypectomy as, in the literature, this technique is associated with high complete resection rate, optimal histological examination and very low morbidity. For diminutive polyps (1-4 mm), cold forceps polypectomy remains a good alternative technique. Therefore, hot forceps polypectomy should not be used anymore.
