DISPATCHES FROM THE FRONT LINE OF AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGY. US AIR FORCES EYES THE 'SON OF REAPER'. THE US AIR Force wants a new hunter-killer drone to replace its MQ-9 Reapers. The drone, which the service calls 'MQ-Next', could end up including a version of the service's Skyborg artificial intelligence. Where the Reaper is a remote-controlled vehicle that directly responds to a human operator's control inputs, MQ-Next could fly and fight with minimal operator input. It would, in other words, be truly autonomous.
