Pedigree C R for Windows - a database program to trace pedigree and characteristics of 18 fruit crops.

Plant breeders are often interested in studying the characteristics of existing cultivars or new selections that have the potential as parents in crop improvements or to keep record of the new breeding lines. Tracing cultivar characteristics and drawing pedigrees generally performed manually, which is laborious and time consuming job. Software was developed to draw a pedigree and trace characteristics of small fruit crops (Pedigree V3.0, 1990). This software has now been upgraded to a newer versionand includes information on fruit and plant characteristics of 18 horticultural crops. Presently information is available on the following fruits: 800 apple, 90 apricot, 80 blackberry, 100 blueberry, 100 cherry, 20 gooseberry, 260 grape, 200 nectarine,700 peach, 140 pear, 250 plum, 200 raspberry, 790 strawberry, etc. The authors are also in the process of upgrading this DOS based version (Pedigree V3.0) to the Windows environment (Pedigree for Windows). This upgraded version is capable of importing 'Windows Bitmap' so that the user can simultaneously browse the plant and fruit characteristics and pedigree while viewing the fruits or plant and fruits of the selected genotype.
