Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is superior in spatial resolution to electroencephalogram EEG and has great advantage in estimating its functional localization. At the same time, it has high temporal resolution capable of measuring human brain function in real time compared to other biological function measuring devices such as MRI, PET and SPECT.Since the measurement of the epileptic abnormal magnetic field activity correlates well with the abnormal activity in the intracranial electroencephalogram, it is useful in the diagnosis of epileptic syndrome by measuring spontaneous MEG activity and estimating its current source. MEG, since it is non-invasive brain function measuring device, secular change of epileptic spikes in a subject case especially in childhood, it is possible to evaluate in real time the change in spreading fashion, such as focal cortical dysplasia.The ultimate treatment for epilepsy treatment is to eliminate epileptic seizures by completely removing the epileptogenic focus without losing neurological sequelae.In particular, by considering the relationship between the localization of various evoked magnetic field reactions and the epileptogenic focus, it is possible to plan an operation plan to maximally reduce neurological sequelae.Such detailed brain function analysis is impossible with other neuroimaging diagnostic tools and strongly indicates the usefulness of MEG examination.
