New Hampshire lawmakers are once again poised to take upthe state’s possible withdrawal from the Regional Greenhouse GasInitiative with the decision hinging on only two Senate votes.Peter Bragdon, president of the New Hampshire Senate, saidthere is a 95% likelihood that the 24-member Senate will vote onRGGI September 7 when it convenes to consider overriding billsvetoed by Governor John Lynch earlier in the year.Lynch, a Democrat, in June vetoed S.B. 154, theComprehensive Shoreland Protection Law, a bill that wouldhave ended New Hampshire’s participation in the nation’sonly mandatory carbon cap and trade market in operation.RGGI requires that participating states in the Northeast andMid-Atlantic reduce greenhouse gas emissions from powerplants 10% by 2018.
