The spindle is one of the main noise sources during machining. In order to study the noise sources of spindles, a normal spindle and a spindle with bearing defects were tested and analyzed. Both vibration and noise signals were measured and the power spectrum analysis was carried out. Vibration and noise caused by rolling bearings, rotor, motor and other issues were separated and studied systematically. The results show that the noise contribution from bearings and the rotor changes with the rotating speed and the electromagnetic noise generated by the spindle motor can be ignored. (C) 2019 CIRP.
