Industries are facing new challenges regarding the communication of substances in articles thanks to a number of developments. These new challenges are reflected in global initiatives – stemming from the 2002 Johannesburg World Summit on Sustainable Development – to improve the exchange of information on chemicals contained in products and strive for a "fair, transparent and traceable value chain".
