GALLS ON TILIA TOMENTOSA 'PETIOLARIS':WANSTEAD PARK, EAST LONDON

Wanstead Park in East London contains all three common species of lime with many planted in avenues radiating out from the old Wanstead House (a now- demolished stately home that had gardens which were formerly said to have rivalled Versailles). Common lime (Tilia x europaea) is the most commonly found, followed by small-leaved lime (Tilia cordata) and then large-leaved lime (Tilia platyphyllos). In the last two years that I have been surveying galls in the area I have found eight galls caused by different species, of which five were caused by mites.
