Casting technology has evolved over the last couple of years, a persistent feed-back from production plants has led to the development of innovative design of key equipment which has resulted in operational benefits and increased cost efficiencies. The recent innovations in twin roll casting process modeled on the "Optiflow?" system have proved to be a decisive path breaker. The development of the "Optiflow? " tips offer greater flexibility in the cast house together with improved quality, up-time and increased profitability. The feed tip nozzle, the variable tip width adjustment system and the flow distribution system has made a significant change to the process enabling production planning at increased operational efficiencies. The re-engineering of the tip design and the innovative development of the patented variable tip width adjustment system which offer the ability of "on-the-fly" changes to strip width has effectively reduced down-time and operational costs. The flexibility to be integrated to existing twin roll casters with minor modifications resulting in an enhanced performance is evident in plants operating with a limited number of twin roll casters and having large customer base (varying strip widths). This patented system allows to increase the performance of the strip casting unit by integrating the latest development in terms of refractory materials and control technology. The recent developments in the techniques of edge milling of the east strip have had a qualitative effect over the use of conventional edge trimming using circular knives. The operational benefits are apparent and noteworthy.
