The next step in the Army's ongoing plan to build a next-generation tactical network is to focus on cloud computing in the tactical environment. After a major network review, the Army decided in 2017 to halt programs that wouldn't address operational requirements, to fix existing programs that were critical to operational shortfalls and to pivot to a new acquisition method that allows for the rapid insertion of new technology.
