John Ward is a well-known maker who has been committed to handbuilding vessels since first emerging on the scene in the 1970s. His work, combining subtlety with striking geometrical designs, has been gaining ever-higher levels of acclaim in recent years. Ward's pots draw from the Modernist traditions of Lucie Rie and Hans Coper (both of whom were his teachers at Camberwell), early Cypriot, Egyptian and Chinese pottery, and from the forms of mountains and geological strata.
