'A bout 20 years ago I was trying to emulate the amazing turquoise blue glazes of Delan Cookson's work, and was kindly given a recipe by June Mullarkey from Dersingham Pottery in Norfolk. That recipe became the basis for my glaze here, except that I use cobalt instead of copper. I often get comments about the intensity of the colour of this cobalt blue glaze. I put this down to the fact that the glaze is matte and absorbs the light like velvet, rather than reflecting highlights or picking up other colours. Matte blues and purples are frequently rough to touch, but this glaze is like smooth polished stone.
