Cytology of a thyroid metastasis from an endometrial sarcoma: A case report

Dear Editor, Undifferentiated endometrial sarcoma (UES) constitutes a highly aggressive mesenchymal tumour, commonly associated with distant metastasis.1'2 The most commom metastatic locations are the abdomen, pelvis, lungs or bones.2 We report a case of a secondary thyroid location of an UES.A 59-year-old woman developed increasing dyspnoea for 1 month. Physical examination showed a painless mass in the right thyroid lobe. Computed tomography revealed a 7-cm intra-thyroid tumour that was partially compressing the trachea. A fine needle aspiration (FNA) was performed on this nodule. Three FNA conventional slides were prepared for cytological evaluation. One of them was stained with May-Grim wald-Giemsa; two other-slides were kept for immunocytochemistry.
