In 2013, the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO, 2013) published their report on 'The State of Food and Agriculture'. The statistical annex of this document contains data on the worldwide prevalence of obesity among adults, covering the percentage of population over 20 years of age and with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 and over. With 24.9% of the adult population obese, UK has the highest level of obesity in Western Europe, which is nearly 2.13 times over the rate of worldwide obesity prevalence of 11.7% (FAO, 2013; NHS Choices, 2015). For Professor Stephenson, Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (2013:3), 'the UK is the 'fat man' of Europe' with about a quarter of the adults (2009-11) and one in five of children aged 10-11 being obese (2011-12), and some two thirds of the adults (2009-11) and one in three of children (2011-12) being overweight (BMI over 25) and obese.
