Isolation of DNA Suitable for PCR for Field and Laboratory Work

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based DNA analysis has become a widely used tool in studying genetic relationships in naturally occuring and laboratory populations of many animals. Unfortunately, most molecular biology techniques require sophisticatedlaboratory equipment. One consequence is that specimens attracting the interest of field biologists such as population geneticists, behavioral ecologists or evolutionary biologists have to be brought back into the laboratory alive or as ethanol-fixed samples for molecular biological analyses.
