摘要

Between April and December 2001, we conducted 323 bronchoscopic examinations on 302 patients suspected of having pulmonary neoplasms. Among these, modified Gill-Shorr stain was tested on the cytologic material obtained from 100 examinations on 99 patients. The patients included 64 men and 35 women, with a mean age of 62.5 years (2-4). After administration of local anesthesia, an examination with a flexible bronchoscope was done. Under fluoroscopic guidance, a brush or curette was used to obtain cytologic material, and then a biopsy was performed. The cytologic material was spread on 2 glass slides. One slide was stained immediately, during the bronchoscopic examination, using modified Gill-Shorr stain to determine the presence or absence of malignant cells in the material, and the other slide underwent standard Papan-icolaou staining after the bronchoscopic examination.
