The Risk of Colorectal Neoplasia in Cases of a Family History of Colorectal Carcinoma or Adenoma. Should the Screening Guidelines be Revised in 2014?

Since 2007, data concerning an increase in the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) and "advanced" adenoma in parents with a first degree relationship with patients with CRC or adenoma has been confirmed and developed, without impacting on the major changes in screening that is currently proposed. Indications that date back to 2004 in France must remain sufficiently simple so they can be applied each day. In daily practice, for every patient each gastroenterologist should make the time to better define the data concerning the index case to personalise the risk of CRC or adenoma: a matter of improving professional practices and revising our guidelines in 2014.
