Essay Review: Philosophers on Function

The volume I discuss in this review brings together some of the great names in the philosophical debate on functions (Boorse, Cummins, Enc, Millikan, Neader, Ruse, Wimsatt), relfecting on their position and replying to their critics. The veterans are supplemented with authors who entered the debate more recentlyh (Allen, Ariew, Buller, Hardcastle, Matthen, Schwartz, Perlman, Walsh) and who promise to become great names (or so the editors must have thought). This is an interesting setup. For this review, I have chosen to discuss the papers of Ariew, Ruse, Boorse, Millikan, Cummins, Buller and Matthen.
