US May acrylates rise on margin, upstream pressure

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US May acrylic acid and acrylate esters freely negotiated prices were assessed higher on Wednesday on mild April propylene pressure and individual margin-protection efforts by the major domestic acrylates producers. Although some buyers said they had settled their free-market contracts at rollovers from April, most sources said they accepted increases of 1 cent/lb ($22/tonne) in line with the April propylene increase and pressure from producers who sought to preserve and expand their margins during the peak spring architectural coatings season.
