Hardenability of steels is significantly improved by small addition of Boron (B) owing to retardation of transformation by segregation of B to austenite (γ) grain boundary (GB). Equilibrium and non-equilibrium segregation as well as boride precipitation are supposed to influence B segregation during cooling but B segregation is not yet understood in details.
