We appreciate Dr. Hanna's and Dr. Brenner's views supporting the need for novice researchers to have scientific writing skills and agree that such skills cannot be achieved overnight or in a fixed time period However, training and guidance in the form of didactic courses and workshops are not enough. There is a lack of effective1 and extensive2 instruction environments in scientific writing. When present, such environments tend to be reductionist and mechanical.3 We believe that scientific writing skills can be effectively picked up by novice researchers through structured environments, such as those using manuscript writing templates, which are documents that provide an idea about the text structure by specifying the role of each text block (a subsection of a scientific article that deals with a single idea or argument) in the manuscript.
