Intermittent Volvulus Due To A Pendulous Leiomyoma Of The Jejunum

Among the rare small bowel tumors leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors and also the most common of all symptomatic small intestinal tumors.A routine CT scan on a man admitted for intermittent episodes of colicky abdominal pain and vomiting of more than one year's duration, showed a pelvic mass and a partial small intestinal obstruction. Initially the patient responded to conservative treatment; however, a few days later, his symptoms recurred. He underwent an exploratory laparatomy, at which time no tumor was found in the pelvis. On further exploration a large extra luminal leiomyoma of the mid-jejunum was found in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen.
