Lufthansa Signs Purchase Agreement with Bombardier

German-based Lufthansa, the launch customer of Bombardier's CSeries model CS100, signed a firm purchase agreement for 30 of the single-aisle aircrafts with the option of an additional 30 more. In a press release Lufthansa announced that the aircrafts will be operated by its subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. Based on list price, the contract value for the initial order of CS100 aircraft is approximately $1.53 billion USD. At market entry, projected at 2013, the CSeries aircraft will be one of the greenest single-aisle aircraft in its class. The aircraft will emit 20 percent less CO2 and 50 percent less NOx. The company also states that the aircraft will fly four times quieter and deliver a 20 percent energy savings, consuming as little as two liters of fuel per passenger per 100 kilometers in its more dense seating layouts.
