Cytec Engineered Materials (Cytec) will be introducing several new products and new processing technologies for composites manufacturers at its booths at the JEC show April 1-3, 2003 in Paris, France, and the upcoming SAMPE conference in Long Beach, CA, held in May. Surface imperfections commonly found on molded composite parts can create a great deal of post molding work for part fabricators. To help manufacturers reduce the expense of post treating and finishing a part, Cytec has developed the new SURFACE MASTER~(TM) 905 surfacing film. This product, like other surface films, forms a resin-rich surface that reduces the number of surface imperfections, such as pinholes and pits. SURFACE MASTER eliminates up to 99 percent of these imperfections. Based on customer trials, Cytec believes that the new material will save its customers up to 50 percent of the costs associated with composite part surface preparation. SURFACE MASTER 905 film improves upon 1~(st) generation film by offering better handling characteristics and twice the shop life (45 days) of competitive films and reduced mold cleaning time. Surface films are used for a wide range of aerospace, aerodynamic fairings, and high-performance automotive structures.
