The as-cast AlCoCrFeNi2.1 eutectic high entropy alloy (EHEA) shows an unprecedented combination of high fracture strength and tensile ductility. However, the study on the synthesis of AlCoCrFeNi2.1 powder has still been lacking. In this paper, the AlCoCrFeNi2.1 powder was prepared by gas atomization method. The microstructure and chemical composition of the powder were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and inductive coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and the corrosion resistance and magnetic properties were also investigated. The results show that the as-atomized AlCoCrFeNi2.1 particles possess a fine dual-phase microstructure of face centered cubic (FCC) and body-centered cubic (BCC) phase, and have a spherical shape with a homogeneous composition. Compared with 304L stainless steel powder, the AlCoCrFeNi2.1 powder exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in both a 10% HCl solution and a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution, and even lower i(con) in a 10% HCl solution. The magnetic property of the AlCoCrFeNi2.1 powder was also discussed in detail. The presented atomization method showed great flexibility in large-scale industrial production of all kinds of high entropy alloys powders for particular applications. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
