Mexico is estimated to hold around 60.00B boe of shale reserves. The country will offer private companies the first chance to enter the country's shale sector when it auctions development rights in Sept. . Mexican oil regulator, the National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) began calling for bids on March 1 for nine Burgos Basin blocks to be awarded on Sept. 5. The CNH reports the Basin contains conventional and shale formations, and auction winners will have the right to develop both. The nine blocks are believed to contain mostly natural gas conventional and nonconventional reserves on the order of 53.00MM boe and 1.16B boe, respectively. Problems for the development area include (1) the arid climate that makes sourcing water difficult, (2) a lack of weight-bearing roads for moving heavy-duty equipment, (3) a lack of pipelines or other takeaway capacity, and (4) gang violence.
