Benzene is primarily used to produce other chemicals,such as cumene,cyclohexane,and ethylbenzene,which in turn are used to produce downstream derivatives such as adipic acid,caprolactam,phenol,and styrene.The aromatic is an important component of the styrenic chain and is use to produce acrylonitrile butyl styrene,polystyrene,and expanded polystyrene.Products that use benzene include tires,glues,and dyes.Benzene is also used to augment gasoline performance.Production methods include toluene disproportionation,steam cracking,naphtha reforming,and the hydrodealkylation of toluene.
