In response to the oil demand and price rout caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,the Italian refiner said it aims to reduce costs by $141MM while also expanding its biofuel refining capacity to meet demand for green fuels amid the accelerating energy transition.CEO of Saras Dario Scaffardi told Reuters in an interview the Italian energy firm company would achieve these cost savings by tapping an Italian government temporary furlough scheme agreed with local trade unions which will involve all of its 1,378 employees that will provide savings of around $35MM.Further savings will come from reducing maintenance at its 330K-b/d Sarroch refinery"to an absolute minimum"and putting on hold planned investments in tank farms and power grid upgrades.
