German-Japanese consortium to develop ammonia-powered vessels

The consortium,which consists of Japanese companies Imabari Shipbuilding,Mitsui E&S Machinery,and trading house Itochu with its energy trading subsidiary Enex and German firms MAN Energy Solutions with automaker Volkswagen's large engines unit,have reached an agreement to develop commercial vessels with engineers running on ammonia.Japanese ship classification society ClassNK will conduct third-party safety assessments of the vessel.
