China has overtaken Japan and become No. 1 natural gas importer in the world. According to the country’s tradestatistics, its total pipeline gas and LNG imports (natural gas imports) reached 90.385 million mt in 2018, up by 31.9% fromthe previous year. To meet strong demand for natural gas triggered by fuel shift from coal etc., the country has beensignificantly increasing procurement volume, which has hit a record high.
