Treatment of acute and chronic lymphoid leukaemia

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) are haemato-logical malignancies that arise from clonal proliferation of blood cells of the lymphoid lineage. Despite this element of commonality, the two diseases are markedly different in terms of presentation, natural history and treatment. In both diseases, there have been significant developments in drug treatments over the past two decades (see Figure I), which will be discussed in this article.
