It would be hard to imagine modern medicine without knowledge of monoclonal antibodies, neuro-transmitters, randomised clinical trials, MRI, or the structure of DNA or insulin, to name a few of the life-changing discoveries made by researchers funded by the UK's Medical Research Council (MRC). With 29 Nobel prizes and more than 400 patents to its name, the organisation has a lot to celebrate on its 100th anniversary this week.
