Dr. José R. B. Gomes graduated in Chemistry from the Faculty of Science, University of Porto, FCUP,in 1995 and obtained his Ph.D. in 2000. He is a Principal Researcher of the FCT Investigator Programme,leading a multidisciplinary team consisting of chemists, physicists and engineers, in the Aveiro Institute of Materials. Dr. Gomes' research activities are related to computational chemistry. He is very active in the study of gaseous molecular systems and of the interactions and reactions of adsorbates with different materials, using a vast arsenal of computational techniques based either on quantum or molecular mechanics. In the course of his scientific career, Dr. Gomes co-authored more than 160 peer reviewed scientific publications in the area of applied computational chemistry, 5 book chapters and several oral communications at international conferences. Dr. Gomes acted as the co-supervisor of two Ph.D. students, of three post-doctoral researchers, six graduated researchers and several undergraduate students, and has been involved actively in several projects, in three of them as principal investigator. Dr. Gomes is now co-supervising three post-doc researchers and a Ph.D. student, and is coordinating the computing and modeling line of research at the Aveiro Institute of Materials. Dr. Gomes is the recipient of the 2010 Vicente de Seabra medal from the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ).
