This small study from Turin, Italy compares 15 simultaneous implant cases and 8 cases done in 2 stages. Various questionnaire based outcomes indicate that the groups achieved similar satisfaction and continence. One difference was that all patients who underwent 2-stage procedures said they would have preferred to undergo synchronous surgery.Considerable overlap exists between the stress urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction populations. One must carefully query all patients from either group about the symptoms and bother associated with the other before undertaking any surgery. Synchronous surgery is becoming more popular than ever, given the costs and access difficulties currently associated with surgery, and the shrinking ability of the workforce to take sick leave.
