Surgical Treatment for Mammary Gland Adinocarcinoma in a Bitch

A two year old intact female Non-Descriptive dog was brought to the hospital, with a history of swelling in the inguinal region. Physical examination revealed hard, painless mass in the right caudal abdomen mammary gland. The condition was tentativelydiagnosed as mammary tumour based on the Fine Needle AspirationCytology (FNAC). Pre-operative blood collected for hemato-biochemical analysis and thoracic radiograph was taken to rule out metastasis. Surgery was fixed and a radical excision of the right caudal mammary gland along with the draining lymph node was done. Histopathologi-cal analysis of the excised mass, confirmed the tumor as mammary gland adenocarcinoma. Post-operative care with antibiotic, analgesic and wound dressing continued for seven days.The sutures were removed on 7th post-operative day and theanimal made an uneventful recovery.
