Successful Management of Dystocia due to Uterine Torsion in a Mecheri Ewe - A Case Report

A full term pregnant Mecheri ewe aged three and half years was presented with clinical signs of uterine torsion. Per vaginal examination revealed twist of more than 180° across the right side in the birth canal caudal to the cervix. Detorsion was achieved with locally available wooden plank as per Schaffer's method. A single female dead fetus with normal P: P2 P3 was delivered by applying gentle traction. Ewe was postoperatively treated with antibiotics, antiinflammatory, antihistamine injections and fluids. After three days, animal had uneventful recovery.
