Morphological and Molecular Identification of Selected Coleoptera from Sakaka, Aljouf, North-Western Saudi Arabia: Comparative study

Samples of Tenebrionidae and Carabidae were selected from north-western region of KSA. 650 beetles (72.3%) from farms and (27.7%) fromhouses by trapping/ manual collection. Genus Adesmia (Fam.: Tenebrionidae) showed the most abundance (38.5%).Whilst,both gener-aAkis (Fam.: Tenebrionidae) and Camedula (Fam.: Carabidae) exhibited the least abundance (1.5%) in this study. DNAs were purified and one or more of six molecular markers (COI, COII, CytB, ND5, 18S and 28S) were amplified over the study. Combining morphological and molecular data, 24 species and 9 genera belonging to 5 tribes, 3 subfamilies, 2 families, 2 super-families and 2 suborders. 83.3% of the species belong to the suborder Polyphaga, and 16.7% of the species belong to the suborder Adephaga. In addition, 80% of Polyphaga belong to the subfamily Pimeliinae (Fam.: Tenebrionidae) and only 20% of species belong to the subfamily Tenebrioninae (Fam.: Tenebrionidae).
