Blackhawk, Southeastern Land announce idlings

Blackhawk Energy’s Panther Creek Mining has informed West Virginia authorities that Panther Creek plans to idle its entire Samples Surface Mine operations in Eskdale. Panther Creek cited in the May 11 letter that the action is being taken “due to unforeseen circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the unanticipated and dramatic market downturn and a sudden decline in customer orders.” Panther Creek plans to reduce the workforce at these operations during the 14 days after June 4. About 78 “non-represented employees” will be terminated.
