Earlier this week natgas went where it hasn’t gone since January

Tuesday, natural gas prices did something they haven’t done since January of this year and that was finish the day with prices above $2. It’s probably too early to pop the corks on a bottle of champagne because above $2 wasn’t much above $2, with the end-of-day prompt-month price $2.13/ MMBtu. That’s still well below where coal would likely kick natgas out of the generation mix, even if you’re talking about the lower-priced coal from the Powder River Basin.
