Spot acrylonitrile prices in Europe rose $40/mt Tuesday week-on-week to $1,945/mt CIF Med, an 18-week high, according to Platts data. A producer reported he sold September volumes at $1,940-2,030/mt and that he continued to offer spot supply, mainly at the higher end of the range. "Demand is quite OK," the producer said, adding that high feedstock propylene and ammonia costs were the main driver of higher pricing. One buyer said that he bought 4,000 mt at $1,950/mt, which was $100/mt below the initial offer of $2,050/mt from his supplier. Meanwhile, most traders felt producers were trying to talk prices up to $2,000/mt, but failed to secure this level due to limited demand and adequate supply.
